A Pune District Central Cooperative Bank (PDCC Bank) employee who was elected to the Pune Zilla Parishad has not violated the bank’s service rules, Maharashtra Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil informed the Assembly.

Responding to a question by MLA Babaji Kale, the minister confirmed that Sameer Kaluram Supe, a Development Officer (JM-II) at the bank’s Wada/Dehane branch, is serving as an elected Zilla Parishad member while continuing in bank service.

Patil clarified that Rule 49 of the bank’s service rules bars employees from contesting elections to cooperative societies registered under the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960, unless they resign from service.

However, the rules do not prohibit employees from contesting elections to local self-government bodies, including Zilla Parishads.

Since there is no restriction on contesting local body elections, Supe has not breached the bank’s service rules, the minister said. As a result, no disciplinary action has been initiated or is warranted against the employee, he added.
