Ram Chandra Paudel on Thursday promulgated the Cooperative (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2083, following a recommendation from the Council of Ministers, media reports say.
The ordinance was issued under Article 114(1) of the Constitution, according to presidential spokesperson Ritesh Kumar Shakya.
The move is aimed at updating the legal framework governing cooperatives in Nepal, a sector that plays a vital role in financial inclusion and community-based economic activity.
While detailed provisions of the amendment are yet to be elaborated publicly, officials indicated that the ordinance seeks to strengthen governance and improve regulatory oversight of cooperative institutions across the country.
