Farmer Welfare, Not Just Business, Must Define IFFCO-MC: Sanghani

IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani has called upon IFFCO-MC Crop Science Pvt. Ltd. to look beyond business growth and measure its success by the tangible difference it makes in the lives of farmers.

Addressing a programme marking the 12th Foundation Day of IFFCO-MC, Sanghani said the organisation should assess its journey not merely in terms of turnover and business expansion, but by the number of farmers it has reached, served and positively impacted.

Reflecting on his experience as a member of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) Committee constituted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sanghani said the assignment gave him valuable insights into the ground-level problems faced by farmers and their expectations from policymakers. He emphasised that farmer welfare must remain at the centre of cooperative institutions and agricultural businesses.

“Cooperation gives the farmer the strength of organisation, connects him with markets and collectively protects his interests,” Sanghani said, underlining the wider role of the cooperative movement in strengthening farmers’ bargaining power and market access.

He also stressed that improving farmers’ incomes alone should not be the sole measure of agricultural development. Their health, social well-being and overall quality of life must receive equal attention, he said.

Recalling his experience as Chairman of the National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB), Sanghani said he had gained an understanding of the economic pressures confronting cooperatives and farmers at the global level. These experiences, he said, reinforced the need for strong, farmer-oriented cooperative institutions capable of responding to changing economic and agricultural conditions.

Sanghani urged IFFCO-MC to revisit the principles, objectives and commitments with which it was established and chart its next phase around meaningful farmer transformation. The organisation, he said, should strive to be recognised not simply as a successful company but as an institution that creates measurable and lasting improvements in farmers’ lives.

IFFCO-MC, a 51:49 joint venture between IFFCO and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation established in August 2015, operates in the crop-protection segment. It has pan-India operations across more than 20 major agricultural states, with over 8,000 channel partners and a portfolio of 85 products.

Its farmer outreach includes education on the right pesticide, dosage, application method and timing, along with meetings, demonstrations, field days and training programmes. It also provides accidental insurance coverage to farmers under the Kisan Suraksha Bima Yojana.

The company has also entered a new phase of product innovation. At its SwarnArambh 2026 event in Chandigarh in August, IFFCO-MC launched Mitsuki, its first Section 9(3)-registered patented fungicide, and NexaWet, a citrus-peel-extract-based silicone adjuvant. The launches underline its growing focus on technology, crop protection and improved farm productivity.

IFFCO’s 2024-25 annual report recorded IFFCO-MC’s turnover at Rs 365.28 crore, up 6.5 per cent, while profitability rose 38 per cent and crossed Rs 50 crore for the first time since its inception.

Sanghani’s message on the 12th Foundation Day therefore places a broader benchmark before IFFCO-MC: “Farmer interest first, national interest first.”
