Nafed package yet to arrive!

Despite Minister’s promise to revive NAFED sooner than later there is not much visible at the ground level. MD Ram Suhag Singh was indisposed for last 2-3 months and with the elected Board demoralized in the wake up of the tie-up losses no enthusiasm was left for action.

Earlier the govt had decided to give an annual grant of Rs 30 crore for a period of 5 years to the Nafed to meet its financial obligations including salaries of employees and administrative expenses.

The govt had also offered to stand as guarantor of Nafed before the lending banks who had moved Debt Recovery Tribunal for recovery of their outstanding dues of around Rs 1700 crores.

Nafed has sought a temporary stay on the recovery orders of Debt Recovery Tribunal which had ordered to sell off its properties to recover dues. But one month on, there is no forward movement, reminded government nominee Ashok Thakur.

Thakur says the govt stands by its promise of reviving Nafed; but Nafed leaders too have to make matching moves and convince the govt of changed work-culture at the cooperative behemoth.
