Awasthi fine-tunes idea on universal co-op platform

On the sidelines of meeting farmers and cooperators in Kolhapur IFFCO MD said the objective of this cooperative meet is to strengthen the cooperative movement through working together.

“As his Yatra is taking him to different parts of the country, Dr U S Awasthi is able to meet farmers and cooperators on a wider scale and that too- one on one. MD’s interaction with them convinces him that a mega platform of cooperatives in the country is possible”, said one of his team members.

An old hand in cooperatives, IFFCO MD has been constantly deliberating as how best the cooperative movement could be strengthened in the country, cooperators who know Awasthi shared with Indian Cooperative.

After seeing the enthusiasm of people in the Maharashtra leg of his campaign MD is serious on this. They quote his tweets to prove their observation “Meet the farmers and cooperators of Kolhapur. The purpose of IFFCO farmers and Cooperative Yatra is to come together at one platform”.

Earlier, in Pune, Aurangabad, Nasik etc he talked extensively of bringing all cooperatives on the digital platform. Impromptu selfies and closer involvement with farmers’ local issues have convinced Awasthi on the need of a uniform cooperative platform, say his team members.

On the way he takes along everybody- as a Japanese delegation participated in his “Sahakarita Kisan Yatra” in Kolhapur expressing their solidarity with the man who is walking through the country for the welfare of farmers.

In Kolhapur his 33rd destination, Awasthi inaugurated a cooperative seminar by cutting the red ribbon in the presence of the Japanese delegation and visited stalls – Cashless Transaction, Eye Checkup and Soil Testing and several other stalls.

Readers would recall that IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance is a joint venture between the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Co-operative (IFFCO) and its associates and Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Group which is also the largest listed insurance group in Japan.

He is to visit Goa today.
