Co-op should be taken up as movement : Modi

While the Congress govt is not ready to recognize the importance of cooperative model of economy, there is good news from Narendra Modi, the Prime Ministerial candidate of BJP.

Modi who is increasingly drawing huge crowd in prelude to Lok Sabha elections has underscored the importance of cooperative bank but cautioned cooperators to brace up for the global challenge.

Gujarat chief minister has emphasized the need for a futuristic cooperative blueprint to meet the challenge posed by a rapid economic and technological change sweeping through the world. A special task force is a necessity to enable the country to achieve this goal, Mr.

Modi suggested while inaugurating Vallabhbhai Patel Sahkar Bhawan of the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank in Ahmedabad. Modi said Gujarat has had a vibrant cooperative sector and its achievements are worthy of emulation. However, prevention of black money activities through the cooperative sector could effectively be checked by digitally streamlining the sector.

Additionally, the sector stands in need of democracy and towards this end a separate independent election body could be put in place, Mr. Modi remarked.

Mr. Modi also underlined the need for a thorough study on the cooperative banking sector as it needs to be taken up as a movement. That the cooperative banks could play a vital role in bolstering the nation’s economy needs no argument. They could help India stand unaffected from various international economic uncertainties, Mr. Modi noted.
