The “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University (TSU), India’s first national-level university dedicated to the cooperative sector, has achieved a 100% summer internship placement rate for students enrolled in its newly introduced MBA programmes, marking an important early milestone in its effort to create a professionally trained workforce for India’s rapidly expanding cooperative economy.
The university announced that all students of its new MBA programmes have secured summer internship placements. The achievement is significant as the programmes were launched only recently with a specific focus on developing managerial talent suited to the evolving requirements of cooperatives, agribusiness and cooperative financial institutions.
The internship achievement is expected to strengthen TSU’s position as a specialised institution for professionalising the cooperative sector. By combining classroom learning with industry exposure, the university aims to equip students with practical knowledge and managerial capabilities required to lead cooperatives through technological, financial and organisational transformation.
The three new MBA programmes introduced by TSU are MBA in Cooperative Management, MBA in Cooperative Banking and Finance, and MBA in Agribusiness Management. They were launched from the academic year 2025-26 following the transformation of the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) into TSU under the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Act, 2025.
The university has been established as an Institution of National Importance with a mandate to provide education, training, research and capacity building for the cooperative sector. Its broader objective is to create qualified manpower capable of addressing the present and future needs of cooperatives while promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and professional management.
TSU has also expanded its academic footprint rapidly. According to the Ministry of Cooperation, the university has affiliated 16 institutions across 10 States and Union Territories, creating the foundation for a pan-India network of cooperative education and training.
Its student base has also grown significantly. For the 2026-27 academic year, TSU has enrolled 350 students across four MBA programmes, including 53 in Agribusiness Management, 50 in Cooperative Banking and Finance, 23 in Cooperative Management and 224 in Rural Management.
Another major milestone came with the university’s first convocation in July 2026, when 302 students received graduate degrees and two students were awarded PhDs.
TSU is also developing its physical infrastructure. The Gujarat Government has allotted about 125 acres for the university’s new infrastructure, with the foundation stone for the new building laid in July 2025.
With its expanding academic network, growing student strength, first graduating cohort and now 100% internship placement for its new cooperative-focused MBA programmes, TSU is emerging as a key institution in the Ministry of Cooperation’s drive to bring professional management, skilled leadership and modern expertise to India’s cooperative movement.
