The Co-operative Election Authority (CEA) has set the ball rolling for the election of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra-based Janata Sahakari Bank Limited, Dharashiv, announcing December 1, 2026 as the polling date, if required. The development comes shortly after the CRCS disposed of a petition concerning the bank on September 15, 2026.
The matter had earlier reached the Bombay High Court, Aurangabad Bench, which on July 15, 2026, directed the CRCS to decide the petition on its merits, while taking into consideration the RBI’s June 1 order concerning seven directors who had completed 10 years of continuous tenure.
The CRCS subsequently disposed of the petition on September 15 and endorsed a copy of its communication to the CEA. The communication was addressed to the Chief General Manager, Department of Supervision, Reserve Bank of India, and also took note of the bank’s election request submitted to the CEA. Following this development, the CEA issued the election programme.
For conducting the election, the CEA has appointed the District Magistrate/Collector, Dharashiv, as Returning Officer. The bank has 73,205 individual members and 779 societies/organisations, with operations in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Fourteen Board seats will be contested, 10 General, one SC/ST, two Women and one EWS. The CEA has proposed 178 polling booths across 34 branches.
The provisional electoral roll will be published on October 27, followed by the final list on November 10. Nominations will be accepted from November 16 to 20, with the final contesting candidates’ list due on November 25.
Counting is scheduled for December 3, with the Board election results to be declared by December 10.
