IFFCO Managing Director K J Patel on Wednesday welcomed a high-level delegation from the Presidential Initiative for Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIA), Republic of Ghana, to IFFCO Sadan in New Delhi for discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture, fertiliser production and the cooperative sector.
The Ghanaian delegation was led by H.E. Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, High Commissioner of Ghana to India, and H.E. Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, Director of the Presidential Initiative for Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIA), along with senior officials.
The meeting focused on exploring mutually beneficial collaboration in organic and inorganic fertiliser production, agricultural development, and strengthening the cooperative movement in Ghana.
Sharing details of the interaction, Patel said IFFCO, as the world’s largest farmer-owned processed fertiliser cooperative, is committed to supporting global agricultural development through innovation, knowledge sharing and cooperative-led growth. He highlighted IFFCO’s extensive experience in serving millions of farmers by promoting modern agricultural practices, capacity building, balanced fertiliser use and institution building.
Patel emphasised that cooperatives remain one of the most effective instruments for empowering farmers, improving rural livelihoods and ensuring sustainable agricultural development. He noted that IFFCO is willing to share its decades of expertise in cooperative management, farmer education, fertiliser production and rural development with partner nations, including Ghana.
The discussions also covered opportunities for enhancing agricultural value chains, improving food security, promoting technology transfer and creating sustainable opportunities for farmers through long-term institutional cooperation. Both sides expressed optimism about building a strategic partnership that would contribute to agricultural transformation and cooperative development in Ghana while strengthening ties between the two countries.
Patel said the meeting reflected the shared vision of India and Ghana to deepen collaboration in agriculture and agribusiness for the benefit of farmers. He expressed confidence that the engagement would pave the way for a durable partnership, fostering innovation, knowledge exchange and sustainable farming practices.
The proposed collaboration is expected to open new avenues for cooperation between IFFCO and Ghanaian institutions in fertiliser manufacturing, cooperative capacity building and farmer-centric agricultural initiatives, reinforcing the role of international partnerships in achieving food security and rural prosperity.
