GCMMF Chairman Mr Parthi Bhatol is excited about procuring milk beyond the boundaries of Gujarat. Talking to Indiancooperative.com Mr Bhatol said that there is huge shortage of milk forcing Amul to look for milk in other states.
GCMMF which markets well known brand Amul Milk intends to buy milk from other states cooperatives to help farmers get value for their money and help get consumers quality milk under the brand name Amul. We have launched the plan as private dairies do not maintain the quality of milk the way Amul does. Consumers have to suffer on account of inferior quality.With the presence of Amul, things would brighten up,asserted Mr Bhatol.
Amul is the largest distributor of milk in India.
But will it not lead to Cooperative war as local cooperatives of the respective states may object to Amul’s entry into their market? Mr Bhatol said that he saw no clash as many private dairies other than Amul are active in Gujarat without leading to any bad blood. Till MMPO (a provision under which area of operation used to be specified) was operative every one stuck to his area. But now one can buy milk from anywhere he wishes to, Bhatol added.
When Indian cooperative.com asked Bhatol’s reaction on Fonterra-Ifffco foray into dairy business in India, Bhatol said that he welcomed the new players. We have competition even today. Nestle, Jai Bhola and other private players are there. Competition is good as it goads one to improve more and more, Bhatol added.
Amul has achieved turn over of Rs 9,700-800 crore ending this fiscal. It also made itself visible in Cricket World Cup final by supporting Neatherland team with Amul t-shirts,bats and other kitties.
It has also plans to provide Amul products to the remotest part of the country in the future. But it would require huge effort and massive network. GCMMF Chairman Bhatol said that we are expanding slowly and hope to make our presence felt throughout the nation.
