GCMMF: Jethabhai elected chairman

jethbhai patelGujarat  cooperative milk  marketing federation of the Amul fame  has got the first interim chairman. The responsibility has been given to  Jethabhai  Patel  chairman Sabar Dairy  in North Gujarat. jethabhai was Friday  unanimously elected the interim chairman in a meeting held in the Anand headquarters of the federation. He is the first interim chairman of the  organization. Mr. Jethabhai Patel has been given this responsibility to succeed Vipul Chaudhary  who was earlier removed from the position.

Mr. Jethabhai has been active in the cooperative movement  since 1990. He has held prominent positions in several cooperative bodies. The GCMMF markets milk products under the Amul brand  throughout the world. Its annual turnover has exceeded Rs. 18 thousand crore.

The father of milk  revolution in India Vergese Kurien  was the founder chairman of the federation. He held the top job from 1973 [ the year when the organization  incepted to 2006. During this  period politics and politicians could not  undermine the organization. After  this, politics  seems to have affected the organization. From 2006 to 2012,  Mr. Bhatol chairman Banas Dairy  headed the federation twice.

In 2012 in August  Vipul Chaudhary of Dudh sagar Dairy became the federation’s chairman but he had to relinquish his position in 2013  due to a non-confidence motion passed against him. After  a series of  legal  fights  the matter is now pending before the Supreme Court.

Concerning the GCMMF  case pending in the apex court, BJP spokesperson I.K. Jadeja  says  there are  a number  of legal processes  going on in the court and all matters  have to be settled in accordance with  the court’s orders.
