The death toll in Dudhsagar dairy fire has gone up to seven after two more bodies were

recovered, officials said.

The blaze that broke out at Dudhsagar dairy in Mehsana district, one of the biggest dairies in Asia, had claimed five lives on Saturday while 22 persons were injured.

“The death toll rose to seven on Sunday. Four of the injured are serious and were shifted to Ahmedabad’s Apollo Hospital while other injured were admitted to Lions Hospital here,” an official said.

The dairy is an affiliate of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation that markets its products under the brand name ‘Amul’.

“Two more bodies recovered today were charred beyond recognition. A report of the forensic science laboratory would be used to identify them. A monetary compensation of between Rs 5 to Rs 25 lakh would be considered for the kin of those who died in the fire,” Dudhsagar Dairy chairman Vipul Chaudhary told reporters.
