Amul holds 49th AGM; business mix crosses Rs 72000 crores

Amul held its 49th Annual General Meeting on Saturday where it was revealed that the cooperative titan has achieved a growth of 18.5% in turnover in the year 2022-23. Thus, with a turnover of Rs 72,000 crore GCMMF becomes India’s largest FMCG brand.

Amul’s twitter declared “Amul is India’s largest FMCG brand with a turnover of Rs 72,000 Crores (USD 9 Billion) in 2022-23.”

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of titan dairy co-op Shamalbhai Patel thanked co-op doyens like Tribhuvan Das Patel and Verghese Kurien and said that we stand here due to their tireless efforts. He also mentioned some other legendary names in this context.

Patel said that Amul offers a hope to the world that such a business model is possible through cooperatives. Amul’s self-sustainable model is a finest example of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, he added.

The Chairman also talked of achieving a turnover of Rs 1 lakh crores in 2 to 3 years on the basis of Amul’s robust marketing strategy as well as efforts of 36 lakh dairy farmers.

GCMMF Managing Director Jayen Mehta presented the details of the sectoral growth and said that Amul beverages grew by 34% in 2022-23. Mehta added that Amul Ice-cream saw a record 40% growth.

Listing further he said Amul Butter grew by 19%, while Amul Ghee consumer packs grew by over 9%. Amul achieved 20% growth in Amul long life milk, 40% growth in Amul Dahi, 16% growth in fresh Buttermilk, and an impressive 20% growth in its largest product category, Amul fresh milk.

Vice-Chairman Valamji Humbal, who is perhaps the most active Director on social media among all, said that Amul has plans to reach out to each village of the country. He added that Amul is in the process of building a strategy to do so. He also informed that Amul has presence in 50 countries as of now.

Humbal also used the occasion to thank Modi govt for carving a separate Ministry for cooperatives and anointing Amit Shah as its Minister. Talking about the three newly formed Multistate Co-ops on Seed, Organic and Export, Humbal said Amul is playing a part in two of them.

Amul has been a cooperative titan which has been admired for its achievements by all the top leaders of the land from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy, Parshottam Rupala.

Rupala recently praised the Amul model for giving a whopping 75 per cent remuneration to milk producers and said it is in keeping with the country’s stock raising. Rupala was speaking at the inaugural session of ‘International Symposium on Sustainable Livestock Transformation’ organised by the NDDB and FAO as part of the G20 program.
