India and Sri Lanka are further strengthening cooperation in the cooperative and fisheries sector, with a 20-member delegation from Sri Lankan Fishery Societies set to visit India for a capacity development programme.

According to the High Commission of India in Colombo, members of Fishery Societies under Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources interacted with the Counsellor (Political) ahead of their departure for India.

The delegation will participate in the capacity development programme at the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune, from September 15 to 22, 2026.

The programme is being organised under the enhanced capacity-building framework for 700 Sri Lankan professionals announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his State visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025.

The initiative is expected to promote knowledge sharing, strengthen institutional capacities and deepen people-to-people cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the cooperative fisheries sector.
