Uttarakhand started its millet procurement drive on October 1 to ensure better prices for farmers and promote traditional hill agriculture. Under the Millet Mission, procurement of Mandua, Jhangora, pulses, oilseeds, Chaulai and other hill produce is being carried out through 250 procurement centres across the state.
The Uttarakhand State Cooperative Federation (UCF) is procuring Mandua directly from farmers at the government-fixed price of Rs 52.05 per kg, up from Rs 48.86 per kg last year. Other products are being purchased at market-linked rates through UCF Haat.
Cooperation Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said the initiative would strengthen traditional farming in hill areas and help improve farmers’ incomes.
UCF Managing Director Anand Shukla said 36 additional procurement centres have been added this year, taking the total to 250 from 214 last year. In 2025-26, 53,860.652 quintals of Mandua were procured from 11,153 farmers.
Payments will be made directly to farmers’ bank accounts through DBT.
