IFFCO’s nanotechnology-based fertiliser solutions for tea cultivation were launched at the Annual General Meeting of the Tea Research Association (TRA), marking a step towards sustainable and more productive tea farming in India.
According to IFFCO Managing Director K.J. Patel, the innovations are backed by four years of joint trials conducted by TRA and IFFCO, which demonstrated promising yield gains of 8–14%.
Following these encouraging results, IFFCO Nano Urea and Nano DAP will now be incorporated into TRA’s Package of Practices for tea cultivation, bringing science-led crop nutrition solutions closer to tea growers.
The programme was attended by Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles; C. Murugan, Deputy Chairman and CEO of the Tea Board of India; Yogendra Kumar, Marketing Director, IFFCO; Suneel Singh Sikand, Chairman, TRA; Rajvinder Singh, Vice-Chairman, TRA; Joydeep Phukan, Secretary, TRA; Dr Venkatesan Selvaraj, Director of TRA’s Tocklai Tea Research Institute; and Sunil Kumar, SMM, Assam and North-East, IFFCO.
The inclusion of IFFCO’s nano fertilisers in TRA’s recommended practices represents an important milestone in applying research-backed nutritional solutions to tea gardens, with the potential to improve yields and support sustainable cultivation.
