As part of the Sahakar Saptah celebrations marking five years of the Ministry of Cooperation, the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation Ltd. (NUCFDC) organised a series of knowledge sessions for the cooperative banking sector.
One of the key webinars featured SVC Bank Managing Director Ravinder Singh, who addressed senior executives and officials from Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) on “Strengthening Balance Sheets: Recovery, NPA Management & Financial Discipline.”
Delivering the keynote session, Ravinder Singh stressed that robust balance sheets are the foundation of sustainable growth for cooperative banks.
He said, “Financial discipline is not just about compliance; it is the backbone of long-term stability. Urban Cooperative Banks must adopt strong credit underwriting practices, establish effective early warning systems and focus on timely recovery to prevent stress from escalating into NPAs.”
He highlighted the importance of proactive asset quality monitoring, effective NPA resolution strategies, disciplined lending practices, recovery frameworks and capital adequacy planning. Singh noted that strengthening these areas would improve resilience, protect depositors’ confidence and enable UCBs to support inclusive economic growth.
The webinar witnessed participation from senior executives and banking professionals from cooperative banks across the country, who discussed practical strategies to enhance financial sustainability and governance in the sector.
