Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday announced a Rs 1,500 crore investment to revive the long-defunct National Heavy Engineering Cooperative in Pune, providing a major boost to Maharashtra’s cooperative sector.
Addressing a public gathering at Kallappanna Awade Textile Park in Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur, Shah said the Centre is committed to strengthening the cooperative movement through large-scale industrial initiatives.
He announced that the National Heavy Engineering Cooperative would be redeveloped with an investment of Rs 1,500 crore, while another Rs 1,500 crore would be invested in a Cooperative Processing Collective Project in Kolhapur district.
The two projects, involving a total investment of Rs 3,000 crore, are expected to generate employment, boost value-added processing activities and strengthen the cooperative economy in western Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Guardian Minister Prakash Abitkar, along with several ministers, legislators and senior officials, were present at the event
