The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) organised a workshop on “Cooperative Handloom Sector in India – Current Status and Way Forward” at its headquarters in New Delhi, bringing key stakeholders together to discuss strategies for strengthening the sector and ensuring its sustainable growth.
Representatives from 14 state-level handloom federations and cooperative societies participated in the workshop, collectively representing more than 5 lakh handloom weaver members across the country.
Senior speakers from the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) and Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) shared insights on government schemes, programmes and emerging opportunities for the handloom sector.
Discussions focused on critical issues including raw material supply, product traceability, training and skill development, marketing and exports, brand building, and stronger collaboration among handloom cooperatives.
The workshop highlighted the need for greater coordination among stakeholders to enhance the competitiveness, market access and long-term sustainability of India’s cooperative handloom sector.
