Mulkanoor Cooperative Society in Telangana is preparing to export its popular Jai Sriram and Telangana Sona rice varieties to the United States, following approval from the Central Government for rice exports.

The society has entered into an agreement with Harvest Link, a US-based company, and plans to ship the rice through Visakhapatnam Port. The first consignment is expected to comprise 25 tonnes, with exports likely to begin within two months once the container receives the required approval.

Mulkanoor rice has gained popularity across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with the society currently selling its branded rice through 51 centres across the state. Its annual domestic sales are valued at around Rs 25 crore.

According to society president Algireddy Praveen Reddy, demand for the brand has grown among Telugu communities in the US. Jai Sriram and Telangana Sona rice, sold domestically at around Rs 80 and Rs 70 per kg respectively, could fetch up to Rs 200 per kg in the US market.

The society has set an ambitious target of Rs 100 crore annual turnover through the expansion.
