In a significant decision for the cooperative sector, the Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the creation of a separate Cooperation Department as part of a major restructuring of state government ministries aimed at improving administrative efficiency and faster decision-making.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Under the restructuring plan, the existing Cooperation, Marketing and Textiles Department will be split into three independent departments, Cooperation, Marketing and Textiles.
The move is expected to provide greater administrative focus on cooperative institutions, including cooperative banks, credit societies, dairy cooperatives, sugar cooperatives and other cooperative organizations operating across the state.
The Cabinet has also approved the reorganization of several other departments, increasing the total number of administrative departments from 33 to 45.
According to the government, the restructuring is aimed at enhancing governance, streamlining decision-making processes and ensuring more effective implementation of policies and schemes.
