The Ministry of Cooperation held discussions with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in New Delhi on October 15 to advance bilateral cooperation in dairy sustainability and circular economy solutions, including the proposed establishment of 1,000 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants through dairy cooperatives.
The meeting, held at Atal Akshaya Urja Bhawan, followed the MoU signed between India and Japan on July 2, 2026. Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Dr. Ashish Bhutani, Additional Secretary Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Joint Secretary Raman Kumar and NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah participated in the discussions alongside senior Indian officials.
The Japanese delegation was led by METI Vice Minister for International Affairs Masayoshi Arai, with representatives from the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and other institutions.
The discussions focused on technical and institutional collaboration, efficient utilisation of organic waste, clean energy generation and sustainable dairy practices. India’s extensive dairy cooperative network is expected to play a key role in developing these circular economy solutions and generating additional value for rural communities.
Collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is envisaged to support project development, sustainable financing and technical cooperation.
