ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), under ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI), Goa, organised a Khet Bachao Abhiyan-cum-Field Day at Ibrampur village, Pernem, focusing on scientific management of repeat breeding in dairy cows and sustainable farming practices.
Organised in collaboration with ATMA North Goa, the state Agriculture Department, Goa State Cooperative Bank and local cooperative and community organisations, the programme attracted 47 participants, including 40 farmers.
Dr. Sanjaykumar Udharwar, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), explained ICAR-CCARI’s recommended nutri-hormonal therapy for repeat breeding in crossbred cows, which has recorded conception rates of around 66% across several local dairy farms.
Officials stressed balanced fertilisation, soil-test-based nutrient management and the use of organic manure. Farmers were encouraged to integrate dairy farming with crop production, using cattle dung, urine and farm waste for vermicomposting.
The Agriculture Department distributed hand-operated pump sprayers and vermicompost to farmers, while Goa State Cooperative Bank highlighted institutional credit facilities to strengthen agricultural enterprises.
