Govt did not spare even Ahmadabad Co-op Bank

If on the one hand the search on the premises of Ahmadabad District Co-operative Bank has confounded the Opposition, it has justified BJP holding a brief for the Modi govt’s impartiality in governing the country on the other.

Ajay Patel- Chairman of this cooperative bank is no ordinary cooperator. Close to BJP President Amit Shah Patel is believed to wield considerable clout. But his “connections” did not help and the Enforcement Directorate searched the head office of Ahmadabad District Co-operative Bank as it did several other banks across the country.

Amit Shah is one of the board members in the Ahmadabad District Co-operative Bank. It has furnished an occasion to the Opposition accusing the bank with Shah as Director of having amassed Rs 500 crore within three days after demonetization.

What they miss, however, is the fact that this govt is not eager to save anyone’s skin – be they own party men or others, underline cooperators connected to the BJP.

Following the ED searches Ahmadabad District Co-operative Bank has had another issue bothering it – a rumor going viral on social media that the Bank has been blacklisted by the government.

Several of its Directors had to go public rubbishing the accusation as well as threatening legal action against those spreading “fake and misleading news” on social media. Active in Ahmadabad and Gandhinagar the co-op bank is about 100 years old.

Readers would recall the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has begun investigating 300 district co-operative banks across the country.
