GCMMF to procure milk from TN

New Indian Express reports Gujarat’s GCMMF will soon start milk procurement in Tamil Nadu. The marketing division of the milk cooperative has released advertisements urging farmers to supply milk in northern districts of Tamil Nadu. Incidentally, Amul already has state-wide distributors for its products such as ghee, milkshakes and ice creams.

Informed sources say agreement in this connection is likely to be signed soon. While Aavin pays Rs 32 to 34 for a litre of milk procured from farmers Amul is giving Rs 36 per litre and collection agents are provided 50 paise per litre on the spot.

Amul has already established a plant in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh and milk procured from Vellore is being routed to this plant. It has announced formation of milk collection centres in Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore and Tiruvallur districts of the state.
