ESAF Cooperative celebrated International Cooperative Day with a special programme highlighting the global theme, “Cooperatives for a Peaceful World,” reaffirming the cooperative movement’s role in fostering social harmony, inclusion and sustainable development.
The programme was inaugurated by P. Ramachandran, Joint Registrar of Co-operative Societies (General), Thrissur, who underscored the importance of cooperatives in promoting democratic values, social justice and economic inclusion. He said cooperative institutions play a crucial role in creating peaceful and resilient communities.
The event was presided over by ESAF Cooperative Chairperson Saleena George, while CEO George Thomas emphasized that the cooperative model, built on mutual trust and collective action, remains a powerful instrument for achieving peace and sustainable development.
In her address, Saleena George described cooperatives as people-centric institutions that strengthen social cohesion and community empowerment.
The keynote address was delivered by Misha Davis A., Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Cooperative Management, Kerala Agricultural University, who highlighted how inclusive development and participatory governance enable cooperatives to contribute to a more peaceful world.
Chief Financial Officer Suni G. Namboothiri felicitated the gathering, and winners of the Cooperative Knowledge Quiz were honoured during the programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice President Joji Koshy Varghese.
