DCCBs of Marathwada need support: Govt

With a view to ensuring farmers in the drought affected Marathwada region get new loans, the Maharashtra govt will request the RBI to permit district cooperative central banks (DCCBs) with strong financial background to give loans to farmers in neighboring districts with financially weak Dccbs as well, reports Asian Age.

Sources say about half a dozen DCCBs in the Marathwada region are financially weak. According to official sources, the state government had given a target of distribution of crop loans worth Rs 32,244 crore for the kharif season but the banks could distribute only Rs 25,000 crore loans to farmers through district cooperative banks, sources said.

Sources say once the RBI grants the permission, farmers from the drought- affected Marathwada region will get immense benefits.
