Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said the business of district cooperative banks has witnessed substantial growth over the past five years, reflecting the strengthening of the cooperative banking sector.

Highlighting the progress made under the Ministry of Cooperation, Shah said the total business of district cooperative banks has increased from Rs 19.6 lakh crore to over Rs 27 lakh crore. He described the rise as a significant achievement that underscores the government’s sustained efforts to modernise and empower cooperative financial institutions.

According to Shah, the expansion in business demonstrates growing public confidence in district cooperative banks and their increasing role in delivering financial services, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

The achievement, he said, is another milestone in the Ministry’s five-year journey towards strengthening the cooperative movement under the vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi.”
