As part of the state-level inauguration of Cooperative Week, organised to mark the fifth Foundation Day of the Ministry of Cooperation, the Bharat Taxi cooperative cab service was flagged off in Lucknow.
The event celebrated the expansion of India’s first cooperative-based taxi service, launched under the “Driver is the Owner” model.
Following its successful launch by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the Bharat Taxi service has now been extended to over 500 cities, including Lucknow. Backed by the Government of India, the platform operates on a zero-commission model, ensuring that the entire fare is directly received by the driver, thereby improving their earnings and financial security.
The programme was attended by Uttar Pradesh Ministers J.P.S. Rathore and Dayashankar Singh, senior officials of the state cooperation department, NABARD, UIDAI, and Bharat Taxi, along with representatives of several state cooperative institutions.
The initiative reflects the Ministry of Cooperation’s vision of promoting technology-driven, member-owned cooperative enterprises that generate sustainable livelihoods.
