Bihar: Student loan through co-op society

Bihar government will soon start providing students with loans under its Student Credit Card scheme by forming a cooperative society for the purpose, reports Times of India.

The loan amount will go up to Rs 4 lakh under the scheme. The state govt will also be reviving its scheme to offer post-matric scholarship to students belonging to the weaker sections of society.

Official sources say as the banks have shown unwillingness to provide such loans, the govt has decided to form a registered cooperative society.

The Student Credit Card scheme was launched in October last year, but only 20,542 students applied for loan under it and only 4,000 and odd of them could avail loans.
