Amul to harness potato-producing areas of Gujarat

Dairy major Amul has decided to harness potato-producing areas of Gujarat. The north of Gujarat is a major potato growing region and accounts for most of Gujarat’s 16 lakh (1.6 million) tonnes potato production.

Talking to journalists about the new business initiative at IIM Ahmedabad GCMMF MD R S Sodhi said “We will launch potato products such as french fries and burger patty in the second week of October.”

GCMMF will soon begin producing frozen French Fries. The dairy cooperative’s entry into the market will greatly boost potato cultivation as the cooperative will directly buy potatoes from farmers, reports India Times.

GCMMF is launching frozen french fries, potato wedges, hash browns and burger patty (aloo tikki) products under their Amul and Taste of India brand. It has already set up a shop in North Gujarat.
