Marking the 150th birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Amul has paid a heartfelt tribute to the great leader whose vision laid the foundation of India’s cooperative dairy movement.
In a full-page advertisement displayed in national dailies, Amul recalled how, in the 1940s, Sardar Patel inspired dairy farmers of Gujarat’s Kaira district to unite against exploitation and form India’s first dairy cooperative- a movement that transformed struggle into strength and unity into power. His vision gave birth to the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, now known globally as Amul- the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative and one of the strongest food and dairy brands.
Amul emphasized that Sardar Patel’s legacy continues to guide its journey, with over 36 lakh women dairy farmers in Gujarat carrying forward his spirit of self-reliance and empowerment.
Furthering this vision, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), under the guidance of the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, has established the Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation Limited earlier this year. The new multi-state cooperative aims to lead India into a new era of prosperity, heralding a “White Revolution 2.0.”
Through this tribute, Amul reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Sardar Patel’s ideals of unity, self-reliance, and cooperative strength- the very values that continue to shape India’s dairy success story.
