Amul is expanding its presence in the U.S. through Costco stores, using a local production model that combines its brand and milk formulations with milk supplied by American dairy farmers, media reports say.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul, partnered with Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) in 2024 to introduce fresh milk in the U.S. Instead of shipping milk from India, MMPA uses its dairy infrastructure and milk from member farmers, while Amul provides its brand and formulations.
Amul Gold, with 6% milk fat, along with Shakti, Taaza and Slim n Trim, is now available in the U.S. market. Amul Gold entered Costco in 2024 and has since expanded its reach.
The partnership reflects how India’s cooperative dairy brand is combining global branding with local production while taking the Amul product experience to American consumers.
