A fresh political controversy has erupted over the alleged non-payment of salaries to employees of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in Uttar Pradesh.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed that the state has 7,266 PACS, of which around 5,127 societies have employees, including secretaries, accountants and watchmen, who have allegedly not received salaries for nearly eight years.
According to Singh, the issue involves an estimated Rs 313 crore budget requirement, and the prolonged delay has created serious financial hardships for the affected employees and their families.
Taking a swipe at the Uttar Pradesh government, the AAP leader questioned how the state could cite budgets running into Rs 7–9 lakh crore while allegedly failing to allocate funds for PACS employees.
Singh also accused the government of misleading the public with what he termed “80-20” politics and urged it to address the salary issue instead.
The allegations come at a time when PACS remain an important grassroots component of the cooperative credit system in rural Uttar Pradesh.
