The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries has highlighted the expansion of India’s dairy cooperative network, with 31,838 dairy cooperative societies established and revitalised under the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD).
The department said the initiative has improved market access for dairy farmers and strengthened milk procurement infrastructure, helping create better opportunities for rural producers.
The expansion of dairy cooperatives is also aimed at promoting sustainable rural livelihoods while making India’s dairy sector more robust, resilient and inclusive.
The development underscores the growing role of cooperative institutions in connecting dairy farmers with organised markets and strengthening the infrastructure needed to support milk production and procurement.
