Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha that 250 Cooperative Interns have joined Rural Cooperative Banks under the Ministry of Cooperation’s new internship programme aimed at strengthening the cooperative banking sector through capacity building and digital transformation.
In a written reply, Shah said the scheme envisages the recruitment of 385 Cooperative Interns, covering all State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) across the country.
The interns are being deployed to enhance the overall capacity of cooperative institutions and promote digital adoption, business development and operational efficiency at the grassroots level.
Shah said each intern receives a monthly remuneration of Rs 25,000, which is reimbursed from the Cooperative Education Fund (CEF). The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) has been entrusted with monitoring the implementation of the programme.
As on May 31, 2026, 250 trainees had joined the scheme, of whom 227 were actively working, the Minister said.
