Defying geopolitical tensions and logistical disruptions during the West Asia crisis, India’s dairy exporters, led by Amul, achieved record shipments to the Middle East, turning adversity into an opportunity, media reports say.
Exports of skimmed milk powder (SMP) surged as Gulf buyers rushed to secure supplies amid uncertainty. The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul, reported an unprecedented spike despite a near halt in shipping operations for over two weeks.
Managing Director Jayen Mehta said around 2,700 metric tonnes of SMP were exported to Dubai during the crisis month, marking a 120% rise over last year, when exports were negligible.
Despite bottlenecks and cargo delays, exports rebounded strongly after mid-March, underlining the sector’s resilience.
