Kerala-based Indian Cooperative Credit Society Limited (ICCSL) has initiated legal action against a group allegedly involved in spreading fake and misleading content using artificial intelligence (AI) and social media platforms.
According to a statement posted by ICCSL on its official Facebook account, its Legal Cell had earlier approached the police after a group allegedly demanded money while threatening to defame the society through social media accounts. The complaint has now led to the registration of a case.
Police have reportedly assured strict action against individuals allegedly involved in the campaign.
ICCSL has urged its members and stakeholders not to be misled by social media messages or campaigns that may be driven by ulterior motives. The society said it would take all legal measures available under Indian law to protect itself against such activities.
The society has also requested members who receive threats or suspicious or fake messages to immediately contact its Legal Cell at legalcell@iccsl.in.
ICCSL appealed to its members to verify information before believing or sharing content circulating on social media.
