The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the request for keeping the branches, offices, ATM link branches and Currency Chests of banks fully operational on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The RBI conveyed the approval to the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) through a letter dated September 22, 2026, in response to the IBA’s letter dated September 21, 2026 on the subject.
The RBI said the approval was given “with a view to ensuring that the genuine banking needs of the public are not adversely affected for an extended period.”
The RBI has advised banks to ensure adherence to relevant legal requirements in this regard.
The central bank also stated that a list of Currency Chests of private sector and foreign banks had been sent separately to the IBA.
In a separate statement, the Union Ministry of Finance said that, in view of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30, 2026, coinciding with the preceding weekend holidays, all Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
