Sanghani Puts People, Planet and Equity at Heart of ICA Vision

Sanghani’s overall agenda combines growth with inclusion, innovation with co-op values

With voting for the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Global Board scheduled in Panama on September 15, IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani has presented his seventh and concluding campaign agenda, calling for a cooperative movement where economic growth goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility and social equity.

In his latest message to the global cooperative fraternity, Sanghani said growth should benefit everyone. His Agenda 7 seeks to build a cooperative movement that places people, communities and the planet at the centre of development, creating opportunities that are sustainable, inclusive and meaningful.

The agenda completes Sanghani’s broader campaign vision under the theme “Building Bridges”, through which he has sought to outline a forward-looking roadmap for strengthening the global cooperative movement. At its core, his campaign stresses that cooperatives must not pursue economic expansion in isolation, but ensure that progress reaches communities, farmers, youth, women and other sections that often remain outside the mainstream of development.

Sanghani’s overall agenda combines growth with inclusion, innovation with cooperative values, and global cooperation with strong grassroots institutions. His campaign has repeatedly highlighted the need for greater collaboration among cooperatives across countries, enabling them to share knowledge, technology, markets and successful practices.

The IFFCO Chairman has also placed considerable emphasis on youth, education, employment and livelihood opportunities. His broader vision seeks to make the cooperative movement more relevant to younger generations by connecting them with entrepreneurship, skills, technology and new economic opportunities.

Women’s empowerment is another important dimension of his agenda. Sanghani has argued for greater participation and leadership of women within cooperatives and for ensuring that the benefits of cooperative development reach women more effectively.

Technology and innovation also form a key part of his vision. Drawing from his experience at IFFCO, Sanghani has advocated modern solutions that can strengthen institutions, improve farmer services and make cooperatives more competitive while retaining their democratic and people-centric character. His official profile highlights his focus on innovation, sustainable agriculture, farmer prosperity and expanding access to technology and market opportunities.

Agenda 7, however, brings together the social, economic and environmental dimensions of his campaign. It argues that the cooperative model is uniquely positioned to address contemporary challenges by ensuring that prosperity does not come at the cost of communities or the environment.

Sanghani, who has been deeply associated with the Indian cooperative movement for around three decades and currently chairs IFFCO, brings extensive experience from cooperative, agricultural and public life. He has also held key positions in major cooperative organisations including NCUI, NAFED and GUJCOMASOL.

The ICA’s General Assembly in Panama includes elections for the President and At-Large Directors of the Global Board. As his campaign reaches its final stage, Sanghani’s seven-point vision presents a common thread: building bridges across nations, generations and communities to create a stronger, innovative, inclusive and sustainable cooperative future.
