The Ministry of Cooperation has introduced a ranking framework for primary cooperative societies to assess their performance across sectors, States, districts and blocks, Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
The framework, launched on January 24, 2025, is available through the National Cooperative Database (NCD) and enables State and Union Territory Registrars of Cooperative Societies to rank primary cooperatives across 12 sectors.
According to Shah, the ranking system assesses societies on five broad parameters, audit compliance, operational activities, financial performance, infrastructure and basic identity information, with a total weightage of 100 marks.
The government said the framework aims to improve transparency, efficiency, effectiveness and credibility of cooperative societies while enhancing their competitive capability.
The ranking system will also help identify top-performing cooperatives and facilitate the dissemination of their best practices to other societies. The government expects the framework to provide cooperatives with performance benchmarks and encourage greater competition and innovation across the sector.
