Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol chaired a review meeting to assess the operations and parliamentary functioning of key national multi-state cooperative societies, including the National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) and Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL).
Sharing details of the meeting, Mohol said these institutions collectively have nearly 70,000 cooperative societies as their members and are playing a vital role in strengthening the country’s cooperative ecosystem. He said the review focused on their operational performance, governance standards, transparency and progress in implementing various initiatives.
Mohol noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” and the guidance of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the newly established national cooperative societies are working to deliver better services to their member institutions while promoting efficiency and accountability.
The meeting also discussed strategies for expanding the cooperative sector and enhancing the role of these institutions in empowering farmers, dairy producers and the rural economy. Deliberations centred on improving the reach and effectiveness of cooperative-led initiatives aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods and strengthening agricultural value chains.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to making cooperatives stronger, more transparent and more responsive to the needs of their members, thereby contributing to the broader objective of rural prosperity and an Atmanirbhar Bharat through the cooperative movement.
