Chandra Pal launches high-octane campaign; his video draws attention

Ace Indian cooperator and Kribhco Chairman Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav who is running for a board member and for Chairman in the polls to the ICA AP, has launched a high-octane campaign on social media seeking support. A video film from his Twitter wall has gone viral.

The video has been uploaded with a caption, “Over the years I have worked towards inclusive and equitable cooperation among cooperatives. Sharing my vision and how I believe I can contribute to ICA-AP if I get elected as a Board Member and as Chairman”.

The video shows Yadav’s multiple contributions to the Indian Cooperative movement. The video also focuses on his role as the Kribhco Chairman in empowering women.

It bears recalling that the elections will be held during the 15th ICA-AP Regional Assembly, which is scheduled for 28th- 30th November 2021 in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.

At present Yadav is the Vice-Chairman of ICA-AP and this time he is running for Chairman. The Japanese Consumers’ Co-operative Union (JCCU), Chitose Arai will be Yadav’s rival for the post.

Though it will be easy for Yadav to acquire a seat on the board of ICA-AP, the contest would be tough for the top job.

The Regional Board of ICA-AP consists of 11 members, a Chairman, two vice-chairmen, and eight Members. The term of office-bearers of the Regional Board is 4 years. The last elections of ICA-AP were held in India at Ashok Hotel in November 2016.

For 11 directors, 12 candidates are in the race. The names include Natalie Browning, CBH Group, Australia, Cai Zhenhong, All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives (ACFSMC), China, Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Kribhco, India, Mohammad Ali Zeyghami, Iran Chamber of Cooperatives (ICC), Iran, Chitose Arai, Japanese Consumers’ Co-operative Union (JCCU), Sung-Hee Lee, National Agriculture Cooperative Federation (NACF), Korea, Dr. Abdul Fattah Abdullah, Angkasa, Malaysia, Min Raj Kandel, NCF, Nepal, Akram Al-Taher, ESDC, Palestine, Antonio Aranas, NATCCO, Philippines, GD Sarath Weerasiri, NCCSL, Sri Lanka and Nguyen NGOC Bao, VCA, Vietnam.

ICA-AP has 239 votes claimed by about 28 countries and their cooperatives as members of ICA Asia-Pacific. These include Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Maldives, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Palestinian Territory, Pakistan, Philippines, Papua NewGuinea, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vanuatu, and Vietnam.
