NCUI: SEWA Chief to address cooperators

Mirai Chatterjee, Chairperson, SEWA is going to deliver Presidential Address in the national workshop “Strengthening Women Cooperatives” which is being organized by NCUI in collaboration with NCDC today in Delhi.

Founded in 1972 by Ela Bhatt, SEWA has grown into a 13 lakh strong organisation playing a pioneering role in socio-economic and political empowerment of women. It offers micro-lending, health and life insurances,and child care – all overseen by more than a hundred women-run cooperatives.

More than 200 woman cooperative societies spread across states are taking part in this conference, besides SEWA and WWF. Working Women’s Forum was set up by yet another champion of woman cause Jaya Arunachalam in the southern states of the country.

Radha Mohan Singh, Union Agriculture Minister will be the Chief Guest during the Valedictory Function on 8th March, 2017.

Soon after the welcome address of Ms. Vasudha Mishra, MD of NCDC, Ms Mirai Chatterjee, Chairperson of SEWA would make her presidential address. The latter would be followed by an address to be made by Ms. Jaya Arunachalam, President, Working Women’s Forum (India).

NCUI President Dr. Chandra Pal Singh is also going to make the inaugural speech. The second half would see group discussions, listing of findings and final wrap up by the evening.

Next day, there would be finalization of Action Plans and recommendations to strengthen women cooperatives. Vasudha Mishra would present outcomes of the workshop and their recommendations.

Second half would see addresses by Shobhana K Pattanayak, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers’ Welfare. In the afternoon Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister will give Valedictory address which would be followed by a vote of thanks by D.N. Thakur, Deputy Managing Director, NCDC.

There is also a session on feedback by delegates in the second half.
