NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav has urged the government to announce a separate economic relief package for strengthening the cooperative sector on the lines the government has announced for small scale industries.
In his around 11 minute Facebook live speech from NCUI’s headquarters in Delhi, Yadav said, ” The Government has announced several economic packages in the wake of coronavirus. If the government could announce a package for small scale industries , there could be a separate package for the cooperative sector as well”, said Yadav.
The Coronavirus has affected the economy in a big way. There is an adverse impact on all the sectors including the cooperative sector, NCUI President underlined. Yadav has travelled all the way from Jhansi to Delhi in the lockdown period to spearhead the movement as reports of many co-ops falling by the wayside in the wake of Corona sacre are making headlines, said an NCUI official.
“In the lockdown period, cooperatives are facing a problem especially the credit cooperatives and the fishery sector in a big way. There is a need to give economic help to the cooperative banks, PACCs as well as state marketing cooperatives”, he underlined.
Yadav reminded the government that cooperative institutions have generously contributed funds towards the PM Care fund. Even employees of the different cooperatives have donated their one day’s salary towards the fund.
Besides, small cooperatives have come forward and distributed essential item kits to the needy of society. They have also donated the masks, sanitizers and other protective gear. These societies have done a commendable job.
Mentioning several National level cooperatives including Amul, IFFCO, Kribhco, Nafed and other urban cooperative banks, Yadav said these institutions are continuously engaged in helping the needy and providing help to them in the best possible ways.
Yadav called upon the cooperatives to grab the new technology for doing the daily activities. We have to keep our mind open on E-Governance and tackle the present situation very bravely. According to ILO, the jobs of over 25 million employees working in the unorganized sector have gone away due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The government has asked the farmers to give their produce to farmers producers organizations (FPOs) and PACCs which is commendable as it will strengthen the hands of farmers.
Earlier, Yadav talked to the cooperators spread across the country through video conferencing and appealed to all cooperators to adopt all the required safety measures in the current situation.
