NCUI: HC’s stay against Jeena’s candidature; Odisha’ Nayak challenged

Jeena Potsangbam-Hemanta Nayak

The NCUI elections spring surprises every day. The latest is a last-minute High Court stay order from Manipur as well as a disturbing piece of documentary evidence against Odisha State Co-op Union delegate Hemant Nayak.

While these surprises are music for Kiran Kaketi of Assam and Satyanarayan Sharma of Chhattisgarh, they have dashed the hopes of Jeena Potsangbam from Manipur and Hemanta Nayak of Odisha State Co-op Union of becoming a GC member of the apex body.

Sources reveal that the Manipur High Court has passed an order asking NCUI to stay declaration of results for Manipur delegate till a writ-petition filed in its court is disposed of.

While Jeena is the Vice-Chairman of Manipur State Co-op Union, its Chairman, who is opposed to Jeena, approached the High court challenging her delegation to NCUI.

Sources reveal that the High Court has passed an order asking to stay declaration of the NCUI results for Manipur delegate till a writ-petition filed in its court is disposed of. According to our sources, the Returning Officer is seeking legal help to take a call on the issue in the wake of the HC stay order.

In the case of Hemanta Nayak from Odisha State Co-op Union, it has transpired that he is no more the elected representative as the state Registrar took over charge of the Union on 2th October, 2020. The MD of Union has written to the NCUI giving details of the development. NCUI is consulting lawyers on this issue as well taking a final call, sources reveal.

It bears recall that Nayak was the one on whom Sahakar Bharati was banking to oust SN Sharma of Chhattisgarh State Co-op Union from the GC. Even Sharma’s supporters had resigned to the situation but this sudden development has energized his team.

It is also being said that Hemant Nayak is guilty of concealing information despite knowing that the state Registrar has taken over the reins of State Co-op Union and he had no locus standi to contest.

It is being hoped that many names would be dropped in the process of scrutiny. The final list after the scrutiny is going to be published by today evening.
