Last Saturday the meeting of the Governing Council of the apex national cooperative body NCUI sealed the fate of Secretary of its training wing NCCT Mohan Mishra, according to sources. Leaders after leaders spoke against his continuation on the job, reliable source confided to Indian Cooperative.
NCCT Secretary Mishra is currently on deputation from NCUI and renewal of his contract was on the agenda of the Governing Council meeting at its Khelgaon headquarters in Delhi on Saturday. Mishra’s term with NCCT is ending this October and if he is not given extension he would be left with no choice but to go back to his parent organization NCUI.
Indian Cooperative has gathered that several GC members expressed concern over Mohan Mishra’s backroom manipulations to make NCCT a separate entity free of NCUI control. His earlier efforts to convince the Ministry and its officials of making NCCT a separate entity were also on the table in the meeting.

The GC was well-attended with an exception of Bijender Singh who is said to be preoccupied with some bye-election. Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Singh also took part as a special invitee. The government nominee Jyotindra Mehta was also present, among others.
Majority of the GC members were shocked to know about Mishra scheming to rob NCUI of its most important part NCCT. Mishra is alleged to have influenced an Evaluation Committee report which was was appointed by NCUI to suggest ways to improve NCCT’s training programmes. The Committee is said to have recommended a separate legal entity for NCCT, allegedly under Mishra’s pressure.
“There was no such terms of reference for the Committee and instead of speaking even a word on how to improve the functioning of NCCT, it acted as a political body and out of the blue suggested something, confided one of the GC members to Indian Cooperative.
“Even Chandra Pal Singh Yadav NCUI President was shocked to see the report when it was presented before him a month ago”, it is said.
When Indian Cooperative tried to know the details of the recommendations from CE N Satyanarayan, he was evasive and said “it is just an opinion; it is not binding on NCUI to accept it”.
Mishra’s detractors say it was his game-plan to create an “atmosphere”. But it is said to have backfired as majority of the GC members were incensed at the dangerous move hidden in the recommendation.
People who know Mishra say the seed of problem is in his mindset as he thinks the cooperative movement could be spear-headed more effectively by the bureaucracy than cooperators. He has no respect for the latter, say his detractors.
But a coterie of people who supports Mishra has a different tale to tell; “since he is talented he is eyesore of all”, they aver. “In a talent-starved organization like NCUI Mishra is one of the few who can write and speak English, they claimed.
