NCUI eCommerce engages Google; aims to take on Amazon: CE Mahajan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched NCUI’s portals during the Cooperative Congress, an event which drew media attention. The Indian Cooperative deemed it fit to learn about the details of the portals by talking to Chief Executive Sudhir Mahajan of the NCUI.

Addressing the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on the occasion of International Day of Cooperatives, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched two portals— one for e-Commerce and second for Cooperative Extension and Advisory Services portal developed by the national apex co-op body NCUI.

Talking about the Cooperative Extension and Advisory Services portal, Mahajan said that the idea of the portal was conceived to broaden the

scope of class room training. It involves virtual learning and classroom learning could be joined online by any number of trainees, he informed.

Expounding further, Mahajan said the portal is in its first phase which is known as Learning Management System LMS. It has been developed by eCSE which works under the government of India and is capable of not only imparting training but also taking exams and issuing Certificates, all in an automated form.

Coming to the eCommerce portal, Mahajan sounded very ambitious and said that NCUI aims to take on Amazon and this is why we engaged Goggle for the venture, he explained. Vinatech, a company which is being incubated solely by Google has been entrusted with the job of making it a success.

And the best part is, Vinatech is flooded with queries from various sources including some from the govt ministries ever since the Prime Minister has greenlighted the portal, informed Mahajan.

NCUI has also tied up with the top players in the fields to make its e-Commerce a success, informed the CE adding that one of the globally recognized logistic groups known as Ethics Group has been enlisted to make available any of the co-op stuff bought online in no time. Acting under CSR Ethics it has also agreed to earmark a corner of its store houses and godowns for cooperative products, said the CE adding it is known to procure any demanded item in any part of the country within three hours.

Another major achievement of NCUI had been a tie up with HCL Foundation, which will not only chisel co-op products but also handhold co-op producers for churning out competitive stuffs, claimed Mahajan.

On a side note, Mahajan informed that the HCL Foundation has agreed to set up a training Center at its Noida Center where it will not only train people but also help them get absorbed into the industry.

Armed with the two– HCL and Ethics, Vinatech would ensure predelivery standards of the quality produced by co-operatives. The publicity and campaigning of co-op products would be done by google. NCUI has even decided to forgo its transaction charges in the beginning so that those involved in the production are encouraged, said Mahajan.

Besides other things, the advantage of engaging Goggle is that it would give us data analysis detailing the products as well as their respective areas, which are high on demand. “You cannot beat Amazon just like that. We need to prepare well and prepare from all sides-quality and availability to take on Amazon”, concluded an optimistic CE.
