ICM Director accused of misappropriation

A case of financial misappropriation and irregularities has surfaced in the Imphal ICM. Mr Somrendro Singh and his accountant are involved in the scam. Mr Singh is the Director of Imphal ICM.

Talking to the Indian Cooperative the complainant Mr L Tompishak Singh Chairman of the ICM, said “it is a clear cut case of misappropriation and financial misconduct. I have learnt reliably during my last Delhi visit that the guilt has been proven against Somrendro Singh by the agricultural ministry”.

Somrendro is accused of flouting the NCCT guidelines in regard to outsourcing such as appointment of lower level staff. He is also accused of buying 40 gift items costing Rs 18,000 each. Other purchases including that of camera are also said to have been done in a non-transparent manner.

Somrendro in collusion with his accountant Ms Subha Laxmi are accused of financial fraud amounting to more than Rs 6 lac, added Tompishak.

The Chairman of Imphal ICM who spotted the mal-practices wrote to the NCCT and the Ministry. A third party enquiry was conducted which examined the matter thoroughly and found the Director and his accountant guilty.

“I want severest possible punishment for the guilty as he has swindled money meant for training purposes. I request Indian Cooperative to support me in my fight against the corrupt”, an emotional Tompishak told this correspondent on phone from Imphal.

Now the ball is in the court of Director General of the NCCT, Dr Dinesh who has to take necessary action and ram home the message that such things are not on in the cooperative institutes, Tompishak added.
