Co-op should develop quality products for masses’ daily use: CM

Inaugurating the NCUI cooperative conference in Raipur on Saturday, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel said that co-operatives should aim to become such a huge product-churning outfits that its products are used by masses in their daily routines.

“And for this the cooperative needs to be well managed, on the lines of any professional business enterprises”, said Baghel underlining lack of cutting edge technology in the cooperative productions.

The Chief Minister said it is necessary that services and commodities offered by the co-operative sector should become part of our day to day life. He urged cooperators to give a special focus on professionalism in cooperative works and ensure delivery of quality services.

Baghel was speaking at the one day Zonal Conference on ‘Cooperative Development for Central Zone’ organized by National Cooperative Union of India. The Conference was held at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Krishak Nagar, Raipur. Several politicians and Governing Council members of NCUI were present on the occasion.

Baghel, however admitted that cooperatives are playing an important role in improving the living standard of the people. He also announced that he would give a building to the cooperative sector in Nava, Raipur for training purposes.

The chief minister added the Government is focused on strengthening the cooperative movement. He said cooperative indeed have a role in the implementation of schemes like  Narwa, Garuwa, Ghurwa and Bari.

Speaking on this occasion Cooperative Minister Premsai Singh Tekam said Agriculture and Cooperative are complementary to each other. They need a much better coordination, he said.

NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav informed there are so many cooperatives in India which are doing a commendable job to uplift the poor of the society. There is a need to strengthen the cooperative movement for the prosperity and strength of the farmers. It is due to the cooperative movement that Green, White and now the Blue revolutions could be made possible in the country.

Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Krishak Nagar, Vice Chancellor, S K Patil said, ”our university is doing researches in the cooperative field and we have realized that rocessing of agri products can be done better through cooperatives. ICAR has listed our university among the top ten universities of the country”, he added.

MLA Satyanarayan Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Chhaya Verma, NCUI Vice-President G H Amin, Bijendra Singh and others veteran leaders from the cooperative sector graced the occasion.

Besides the majority of Governing Council members of NCUI, its top officials- N Satyanarayana and K N Sinha were also present.

The NCUI leaders also met the former Chief Minister Raman Singh at his office, striking a balance and driving home the message that cooperative is above party and politics.
